When Allah wanted good for me, He cast the love of Islam into my heart. I had witnessed all these battles against Muhammad ﷺ, and every time I sensed I was being turned away, and that he would be victorious. The final proof was at Hudaybiyyah: when I met him at Asfan ready to charge, it was as if he sensed us even during the prayer and outflanked us. I realized then that this man is protected and I could not get to him. I thought of fleeing to Abyssinia or to Rome, but I could settle in neither. So I remained confused until Umrah al-Qada, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah and did not find me, and asked about me.
Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. As to what follows: I have not seen anything stranger than you running away from Islam; for how long will you oppose it? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked about you when he came to Makkah, and said it is not befitting that someone like you neglects Islam; if you were to put your talents with us against the mushrikun, it would be better for you, and we would give you honor. So make up for what has already passed, for many opportunities have gone by. Wassalam.
This is enough: I will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and embrace Islam. But who should I bring with me?
What do you think about embracing Islam?
If I were the last person alive in the whole world, I will not embrace Islam.
I feel that I should embrace Islam.
You are going to leave us, the son of al-Walid?! Wallahi, this is not going to happen!
Will you kill him merely because he changed his religion?
Ikrimah had summoned Abu Sufyan and other Quraysh elders to his house; according to one report it came to unsheathed swords before Ikrimah himself defused the situation.
