Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahal RA

Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl RA was the son of Abu Jahl, a young man of Banu Makhzum and childhood friend of Khalid ibn al-Walid RA. At Badr he cut off the arm of Mu'adh ibn Amr ibn al-Jumuh RA while defending his father, and after his father's death he became one of the leading fighters of the Quraysh against the Muslims at Uhud and Khandaq. At the Conquest of Makkah he tried to fight back and then fled by sea toward Abyssinia, but he was later pardoned and accepted Islam. He was martyred fighting the Byzantines, at Yarmouk by the report in which he, al-Harith ibn Hisham and Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'ah each passed a cup of water on to the other, though some place his death at Ajnadayn.
