Everyone, stop eating. The shoulder of the lamb has told me it has been poisoned.
Said the moment he took a bite of a lavish gift of food, including a roasted lamb, sent to him after the conquest of Khaybar.
Had already swallowed a bite of the poisoned lamb before the Prophet ﷺ's warning came; died of it a few days later.
If I ask you anything, will you tell the truth?
Said after calling in the kinsfolk who had gifted him the poisoned meal.
Yes, we will tell the truth.
Who is your ancestor?
Our ancestor is so-and-so.
You are lying. Your ancestor is so-and-so.
Perhaps they had lied about their ancestor because of some point of embarrassment about the man.
You have spoken the truth, you have been honest with us.
If I ask you a question, will you be honest with me?
Ya Aba al-Qasim, we have already seen now that if we lie, you can tell, so we will be honest.
Who is going to the Fire of Hell?
We will go for a short period, but then Allah will save us. And you and your people will remain forever.
This was their belief, as Allah mentions in Surah al-Baqarah [2:80].
Remain humiliated and remain in the Fire of Hell. By Allah, we will not remain after you.
Will you tell the truth?
Yes.
Did you poison the goat?
Yes, we did.
Why?
If you were a liar, we would be free of you and your conquering; and if you are a prophet, our mischievousness would not have harmed you anyway.
It was so-and-so.
Why did you do this?
You killed my husband, you killed my uncle, and so-and-so: they all died in the battle, so I wanted to kill you as a result.
