~Shawwal, 5th year of the dawah (c. 615 CE) · 7 BH
Word reached the roughly fifteen Muslims who had emigrated to Abyssinia in Rajab that the Quraysh had accepted Islam, an exaggeration of the news that the Quraysh had joined the Muslims in prostration at the recitation of Surah al-Najm in Makkah. Although the emigrants had not faced persecution in Abyssinia, adjusting to an unfamiliar land, language, and culture had been difficult, and they were eager to return. Yearning for home, they packed their belongings and set out for Makkah without waiting to confirm the rumor.
Their hopes were shattered when they learned, during the journey back, that the rumor was false and the persecution in Makkah had not ended.
