Wanting to expose the Prophet ﷺ as a false prophet, the Quraysh sent emissaries to the Jews of Yathrib (Madinah) asking for a question only a true prophet could answer. The Jews told them to ask about what happened to the family of Ya'qub (Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph). When the Quraysh put the question to the Prophet ﷺ, Allah revealed the whole of Surah Yusuf in response, detailing the story of Ya'qub's family in a way the Arabs had no prior knowledge of.
The revelation of Surah Yusuf answered the Quraysh's attempted trap in full, demonstrating knowledge the Prophet ﷺ could not have obtained from any human source.
