Early authorities differ on the exact manner of Yasir's death.
Yasir, his wife Sumayyah, and their sons Abdullah and Ammar were tortured together in front of one another. Yasir was killed first: accounts differ on the exact manner, some saying he was dragged by rope, others that he was torn apart by horses. Sumayyah, further emboldened in her faith, rebuked Abu Jahal, who then killed her with a spear thrust, making her and Yasir the first martyrs of Islam. Abdullah was thrown into a ditch, and Ammar, likely no older than fifteen, was tortured until he uttered words of disbelief and was released as the youngest of the family.
Yasir and Sumayyah became the first martyrs (shuhada) of Islam.

صَبْراً يَا آلَ يَاسِرٍ فَإِنَّ مَوْعِدَكُمُ الْجَنَّةُ
Be patient, O family of Yasir! Indeed, the place appointed to you is Paradise.
