Abu Salamah Abdullah ibn Abd al-Asad RA was an early Muslim of the Banu Makhzum and the Prophet ﷺ's cousin through his mother, a sister of the Prophet ﷺ's father Abdullah. He was the devoted husband of Umm Salamah RA, known for his gentle character. The couple made the first emigration to Abyssinia, and on returning he took protection with his uncle Abu Talib. He is said to have been the first Muslim to emigrate to Madinah, forced to leave his wife and son behind for more than a year. Severely wounded at Uhud in 3 AH, he died months later, praying that Allah give Umm Salamah a better husband, and the Prophet ﷺ married her. Their son Umar ibn Abi Salamah RA grew up as the Prophet ﷺ's stepson.
