Mus'ab ibn Umayr RA was a young man of the Banu Abd al-Dar of the Quraysh, once the most pampered youth of Makkah, who gave up wealth and family for Islam after his parents chained and starved him. He emigrated to Abyssinia and was then sent by the Prophet ﷺ as the first teacher to Yathrib, where his preaching won over leaders such as Sa'd ibn Mu'adh and Usayd ibn Hudayr and prepared the city for the Hijrah. He carried the Muslim banner at Uhud in 3 AH and was martyred there, leaving so little that his shroud could not cover his whole body.
