What happened

After the Muslims' return from Abyssinia, Abu Bakr RA set out to emigrate there himself, reaching Bark al-Ghimad, where Ibn al-Daghina, chief of the tribe of Qara, met him and offered him protection (jiwar) to return and worship in Makkah. The Quraysh accepted the protection on condition Abu Bakr not pray publicly. Abu Bakr built a prayer area in front of his house and recited the Qur'an there so beautifully that women and children gathered to listen, which the Quraysh felt violated the condition. They pressured Ibn al-Daghina to withdraw his protection unless Abu Bakr confined his worship indoors.

Significance

Abu Bakr RA chose to release Ibn al-Daghina from the pact rather than restrict his worship, saying he was content with the protection of Allah alone.
