The Prophet ﷺ led around 150-200 sahaba to intercept the Quraysh's major annual caravan to Syria, laden with 70-80 camels and some 70-80% of Makkah's wealth, led by Abu Sufyan ibn Harb. By the qadar of Allah, one of the caravan's party strayed and spotted the Muslims in the distance, prompting Abu Sufyan to divert the caravan's route, so the two sides never crossed paths. The caravan reached Syria safely and the Muslims returned to Madinah.
Outcome: The caravan was missed; no battle occurred.
The first stage in the lead-up to the Major Battle of Badr: it targeted the same caravan that Badr al-Kubra would later target on its return journey to Makkah.
