Sources differ on whether Ruqayyah was the first, second, or third daughter of the Prophet ﷺ.
Ruqayyah bint Muhammad ﷺ, wife of Uthman ibn Affan RA, passed away in Madinah. Uthman RA, who had stayed behind from Badr at the Prophet ﷺ's instruction to nurse her, had just finished burying her at Baqi' al-Gharqad when he heard Zayd ibn Harithah RA entering the city shouting takbir with news of the victory at Badr.
The order of the daughters of the Prophet ﷺ is not certainly known: some say Ruqayyah was the first, some the second, some the third, but she was for certain the first to die. That the happiest day in early Islam coincided with grief in the Prophet ﷺ's own household is taken as a lesson that this world remains a place of trial even at its most joyful moments.
