Of the 70 prisoners taken from Badr back toward Madinah, two were executed on the way: al-Nadr ibn al-Harith and Uqba ibn Abi Mu'ayt, both counted among the shayatin of the Quraysh. When Uqba was brought out, he asked why he alone was singled out; Ali ibn Abi Talib RA answered that it was for his animosity to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, and it is said Ali RA carried out the execution.
Outcome: Al-Nadr ibn al-Harith and Uqba ibn Abi Mu'ayt were executed; the other 68 prisoners were brought to Madinah.
Some scholars say this is the only occasion prisoners of war were ever executed under the command of the Prophet ﷺ. The general rule in Islam is that POWs are not executed, but the exception here demonstrated that not all of the kuffar were treated alike: those most entrenched in mockery and violence against the Prophet ﷺ received no clemency, while the great majority of the 70 prisoners were shown mercy.
