Several months after Badr, the elderly Ansari Sa'd ibn al-Nu'man traveled to Makkah to trade and perform Umrah. Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, still refusing to ransom his captured son Amr ibn Abi Sufyan, kidnapped Sa'd in broad daylight inside the Haram and declared he would not release him until his son was freed. Sa'd's tribe brought the matter to the Prophet ﷺ, who released Amr without ransom to secure Sa'd's freedom.
Outcome: Amr ibn Abi Sufyan was released without ransom and swapped for Sa'd ibn al-Nu'man.
Highlighted as a double standard of the Quraysh, who had objected fiercely when Muslims once erred during a Sacred Month, yet said nothing when their own chieftain kidnapped a man in broad daylight at the Ka'bah. The Prophet ﷺ nonetheless dealt with the injustice pragmatically to secure Sa'd's release.
