عُمَرُ بنُ الخَطَّابِ
Accepted Islam three days after Hamzah, in Dhu al-Hijjah of the 6th year of the dawah, after reading Surah Taha at his sister Fatima's house; the Prophet ﷺ gave him the title al-Faruq.
Umar ibn al-Khattab RA, Abu Hafs, called al-Faruq by the Prophet ﷺ, was of the Banu Adi of Quraysh and one of the fiercest early enemies of Islam until his conversion around the sixth year of prophethood, which the Prophet ﷺ had prayed for and which allowed the Muslims to worship openly. His daughter Hafsa RA became a wife of the Prophet ﷺ.
He was among the Prophet ﷺ's closest counsellors, known for both sternness and tenderness, and the Prophet ﷺ said that if anyone in his ummah was inspired, it was Umar. As the second caliph after Abu Bakr RA he greatly expanded the Muslim state, and he was martyred in Madinah in 23 AH, as he had prayed.
