This unnamed woman was one of the wives of Umar ibn al-Khattab RA, living in his house in al-Awali in Madinah. Umar later recalled that the men of the Quraysh had been used to dominating their women, but in Madinah the women of the Ansar had more say, and the Muhajir wives learned from them. One day Umar grew angry with her and she answered him back. When he rebuked her for it, she said, "You are rebuking me for responding back, but don't you know that the wives of the Prophet ﷺ respond back to him? So much so that sometimes, they abandon him in anger, even for a whole day." Shocked, Umar went straight to his daughter Hafsa RA, who admitted that she too sometimes argued with the Prophet ﷺ and kept away from him for a day.
