حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ
Struck Abu Jahal for publicly cursing the Prophet ﷺ and declared himself a follower of his religion; sincerity followed after a night of du'a asking Allah to guide him if the message were true.
Hamzah ibn Abd al-Muttalib RA was an uncle of the Prophet ﷺ and a close friend from youth, honored as Sayyid al-Shuhada, the Leader of the Martyrs. A famed archer and one of the strongest men of Makkah, he accepted Islam around the sixth year of prophethood after confronting Abu Jahl for insulting his nephew, and his conversion greatly strengthened the small Muslim community.
In Madinah he led early expeditions, fought in the opening single combat at Badr, and was among the fiercest fighters of the Muslims. He was martyred at Uhud in 3 AH by Wahshi, whom Hind bint Utbah had set on him, and his body was mutilated. The Prophet ﷺ grieved for him deeply for the rest of his life.
