Al-Zubayr ibn Abd al-Muttalib was an uncle of the Prophet ﷺ, by some reports a full brother of his father Abdullah and of Abu Talib. When a merchant of Zubayd was cheated by al-As ibn Wa'il and cried out for justice at the Ka'bah, al-Zubayr gathered the senior men of the Quraysh in the house of Abdullah ibn Jud'an, where they swore to stand with the wronged against the wrongdoer, whatever the tribe. The pact became known as Hilf al-Fudul. The young Prophet ﷺ was present and later said he would uphold it even as a prophet.
