Stand up, O Hassan, and defend me: the angel Jibril will be with you.
Said after the Quraysh directed mocking poetry against the Prophet ﷺ.
~Early Madinan period; exact date not given in this account
When the Quraysh directed poetry against the Prophet ﷺ, he ﷺ told Hassan ibn Thabit, his official poet, to stand and answer them, promising him the help of the angel Jibril, who would whisper the words to him through ilham. Hassan was afterward given his own minbar in the masjid from which to recite, the only sahabi known to have had one.
Establishes Hassan ibn Thabit's unique station among the sahaba as the Prophet ﷺ's poet.
