Al-Walid ibn al-Mughira, chief of Banu Makhzum and regarded as the greatest poet in Makkah, managed to listen to the Prophet ﷺ recite the Qur'an uninterrupted for the first time. He was mesmerized, and walked away afterward a changed man, muttering to himself a description of the Qur'an's beauty.
Even the foremost master of Arabic poetry in Makkah could not deny the Qur'an's unmatched eloquence.

By Allah, I have heard a speech from Muhammad ﷺ right now that is neither from the speech of man nor jinn; it has a rhythm, the top of it is fertile, the height of it is beautiful, and it surpasses everything I have heard, and nothing can surpass it.
