Abu Sufyan ibn Harb RA's Overnight Camp and Conversion at Marr al-Zahran

At Marr al-Zahran (later known as Wadi Fatima), the final camping station of the Muslim army before the Conquest of Makkah, the army lit ten thousand fires. Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib RA, newly reunited with the army, went out that night to persuade the Quraysh to submit peacefully and encountered three Quraysh and Khuza'a leaders keeping watch, among them Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, the last senior chief left in Makkah. Al-Abbas RA brought Abu Sufyan into the camp on the Prophet ﷺ's own mule, Duldul, past Umar ibn al-Khattab RA, who wanted him executed on the spot; the Prophet ﷺ had Abu Sufyan spend the night in al-Abbas RA's tent, and the next morning Abu Sufyan reluctantly accepted Islam. The Prophet ﷺ then declared that whoever entered the Haram, stayed in their own home, or entered the house of Abu Sufyan would be safe, and had al-Abbas RA show Abu Sufyan the army marching past tribe by tribe, at which Abu Sufyan marveled at its scale.
