Ali RA's Investigation of Ma'boor

After Maria al-Qibtiyya RA was brought to Madinah, before she had embraced Islam, rumors spread that the servant sent with her, Ma'boor, said by some reports to be a distant relative of hers, was 'visiting' her. The Prophet ﷺ instructed Ali ibn Abi Talib RA, as the one entrusted with matters of his household (Ahl al-Bayt), to take his sword and find Ma'boor. Ali found him in a date grove; on seeing Ali, Ma'boor was terrified and his awrah was exposed (accounts differ on whether he fell while climbing a tree or exposed himself intentionally). It was then plain that he had been mutilated (castrated, as was sometimes done to slaves before Islam prohibited mutilating any slave or human being) proving the rumors false. Ali returned and informed the Prophet ﷺ.
