During the Hijrah journey, a caravan passed the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr RA and, as was customary, turned aside to greet them. One traveler recognized Abu Bakr RA and asked who his companion was. Abu Bakr RA replied that he was his guide, guiding him to the path, a tawriya (a statement with a true double meaning, not a lie): the caravan understood an ordinary travel guide, while Abu Bakr RA meant the Prophet ﷺ was guiding him to the path to Jannah. The exchange also shows that their guide Abdullah ibn Urayqit had already parted from them by this point in the journey.
