~During the khilafa of Ali ibn Abi Talib RA (35-40 AH)
After repeatedly confronting other companions over wealth and building in the years after the Prophet ﷺ's death, Abu Dharr al-Ghifari RA was asked by Khalifa Uthman ibn Affan RA to leave Madinah; he agreed, and went to live in the desert alone with his wife and a young servant. Years later, in the khilafa of Ali ibn Abi Talib RA, as Abu Dharr lay dying, his wife wept that she had no cloth to shroud him or the strength to bury him. He told her not to cry, recalling that the Prophet ﷺ had once told a gathering of companions, "One of you will die all alone, yet a group of believers will pray over him", and that he was the last of that gathering left alive, and the only one still in the wilderness, so he knew from the Prophet ﷺ's truthful words that someone would come. He instructed her to carry his body to the roadside after he died, though it was not Hajj season and she doubted anyone would pass. He insisted, saying he had neither lied nor been lied to. After he passed away and she did as he said, a caravan including Abdullah ibn Mas'ud RA and Ammar ibn Yasir RA appeared on the road; the servant flagged them down to help bury a Muslim. On learning it was Abu Dharr, Ibn Mas'ud wept and said, "The Prophet ﷺ has spoken the truth." The travelers gave their own garments for his kafan, prayed his janazah in the desert, and buried him, reported by Ibn Sa'd.
Outcome: Buried in the desert by a passing caravan that included Ibn Mas'ud RA and Ammar ibn Yasir RA.
A moving fulfillment of the Prophet ﷺ's prophecy and a testament to Abu Dharr's lifelong sincerity (he himself insists at the end, "neither am I lying, nor was I lied to"): his solitary death and the caravan's providential arrival became one of the most cited illustrations in the seerah of trust in the Prophet ﷺ's truthful word outliving his own lifetime.

This is Abu Dharr, the Companion of the Prophet ﷺ.
Answering a traveler in the caravan who asked whose body it was.
The Prophet ﷺ has spoken the truth.
Ibn Mas'ud recognized this as the fulfillment of the Prophet ﷺ's words that Abu Dharr would die alone yet be prayed over by a group of believers.
Why are you crying?
Asked of his wife, who wept beside him as he lay dying alone in the wilderness.
Because I don't even have cloth to shroud you, or the power to bury you.
Do not cry, for I heard the Prophet ﷺ say one day when we were sitting with a group of people, "One of you will die all alone, yet a group of believers will pray over him." And every other companion in that sitting has passed away, and they were not in this condition, and I'm the only one left in the wilderness. So when I die, take my body and go sit on the path; somebody will come.
Why would anyone come? It isn't Hajj season.
Do as I say, go on the path: for wallahi, neither am I lying, nor was I lied to.
