Abdullah ibn Mas'ud RA

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud RA was a Yemeni of the servant class who shepherded Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt's flocks in Makkah until the miracle of a dry goat's milk brought him to Islam, the sixth person to accept it. Without a clan to protect him, he was the first to recite the Qur'an publicly at the Ka'bah and was beaten for it. He learned more than seventy surahs from the Prophet ﷺ's own mouth, and the Prophet ﷺ said whoever wished to recite the Qur'an as it was revealed should recite it as Ibn Mas'ud did. At Badr he found Abu Jahl dying and finished him. He is a major narrator of the Makkan years and the Night Journey, and later helped bury Abu Dharr RA in the desert.
