Abu Safwan
Umayyah ibn Khalaf, Abu Safwan, was a wealthy chief of the Quraysh and one of the most bitter early enemies of Islam. He was the master of Bilal ibn Rabah RA and personally took part in torturing him for his faith. Warned that the Prophet ﷺ had foretold his death, he tried to avoid the march to Badr in 2 AH but was shamed into going, and he was killed there, with Bilal among those who confronted him. His son Safwan ibn Umayyah later accepted Islam after the Conquest of Makkah.
