As conversions increased and Makkan society grew visibly divided, the Quraysh proposed a compromise to the Prophet ﷺ: that one day all of them would worship as Muslims, and the next day all of them would worship the idols together. Allah revealed Surah al-Kafirun [Quran, 109:1-6] in response, rejecting any compromise in tawhid.
