Narrations differ on whether the Prophet ﷺ merely considered divorcing Hafsa RA or issued one talaq before taking her back.
A dispute arose between the Prophet ﷺ and Hafsa bint Umar RA; according to one narration he considered divorcing her, and according to another he issued a single talaq. Jibril AS came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him Allah commanded he take her back, for she was sawwama qawwama (one who fasts and prays much) and would be his wife in Jannah. On another occasion of tension between them, her father Umar RA, finding her in tears, warned her that if the Prophet ﷺ divorced her again he would never speak to her again.
