~10th of Ramadan, 10th year of the dawah (c. 620 CE) · 2 BH
Khadija RA passed away on the 10th of Ramadan, less than 40 days after the death of Abu Talib, in the same Year of Sorrow (Aam al-Huzn). The command to pray janazah had not yet been revealed, so no funeral prayer was performed over her; the Prophet ﷺ himself placed her in the grave.
Khadija RA was the Prophet ﷺ's wife, closest friend, and first supporter, who protected and comforted him from within his household just as Abu Talib had protected him externally in Makkah. Her death alongside Abu Talib's, so close together, caused the Prophet ﷺ such grief that the sahaba reported not seeing him smile for months, and the whole year came to be called the Year of Sorrow (Aam al-Huzn).
