Suhayl ibn Amr RA

Suhayl ibn Amr, Abu Yazid, was a chief of Banu Amir ibn Lu'ayy known as "the orator of Quraysh." He opposed the Prophet ﷺ for two decades, fighting at Badr, Uhud and the Trench, and imprisoned his own Muslim son Abu Jandal RA. At Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH he negotiated the treaty for the Quraysh, insisting on its harshest terms, including returning Abu Jandal in chains. After the Conquest of Makkah he accepted Islam and became known for devotion in prayer, fasting and charity. When the Prophet ﷺ died he held the people of Makkah firm in Islam, and he was martyred in Syria in 18 AH.
