Sawda bint Zam'a RA

Sawdah bint Zam'ah RA was a Mother of the Believers and the first woman the Prophet ﷺ married after the death of Khadijah RA. An early Muslim disowned by her family, she was the widow of al-Sukran ibn Amr, brother of Suhayl ibn Amr, who had emigrated to Abyssinia. Khawlah bint Hakim RA suggested the match, and the Prophet ﷺ married her out of compassion about six months after Khadijah died; she was the eldest of his wives, older than he was. Hers and Aisha RA's were the first houses beside the Masjid in Madinah. Later, wishing only to remain his wife, she gave her night to Aisha. Her request to leave Muzdalifah early on the Farewell Hajj became a ruling for the elderly and weak. She died during Umar RA's caliphate and was buried in Baqi' al-Gharqad.
