As a reward for his steadfastness under torture, Bilal ibn Rabah, whose torment began with the cry "Ahadun Ahad", was chosen by the Prophet ﷺ to be his official muezzin because he had the best voice among the believers, becoming the voice that called the adhan reciting the same declaration of Allah's Oneness. He later gave the adhan in the Haram itself when the Prophet ﷺ reconquered Makkah.
Illustrates the principle "al-jaza min jins al-amal", the reward is of the same nature as the deed, as the voice that once cried out in torment became the voice that called believers to prayer.

If people knew how much reward there is in giving the adhan and standing in the first row of prayer, and had no other way to decide than by drawing lots, they would draw lots to do so.
