Safiyyah bint Huyayy RA was a Mother of the Believers and the daughter of Huyayy ibn Akhtab, chieftain of the Jewish tribe of Banu al-Nadir. Exiled with her people to Khaybar, she was widowed and taken captive when the Muslims conquered it in 7 AH, and the Prophet ﷺ freed and married her. She became one of his beloved wives; he defended her against taunts about her Jewish origins, reminding her that she was descended from prophets, and in his final illness he affirmed the sincerity of her love for him.
