Al-Muttalib ibn Abd Manaf was the brother of Hashim, the Prophet ﷺ's great-grandfather. He recognized Hashim's son Shayba in the streets of Yathrib and brought him to Makkah, where the Quraysh took the boy for his slave and called him Abd al-Muttalib, the name by which the Prophet ﷺ's grandfather has been known ever since. His descendants include Ubaydah ibn al-Harith RA.
