مارية القبطية
“al-Qibtiyya”
Maria bint Sham'un RA, al-Qibtiyyah (the Copt), was the mother of the Prophet ﷺ's son Ibrahim. She was sent from Egypt with her sister Sirin as a gift from the Muqawqis around 7 or 8 AH, and the Prophet ﷺ kept her as his milk al-yamin, giving her a house in al-Awali; she is therefore not counted among the Mothers of the Believers. The opening of Surah al-Tahrim is most strongly linked to an episode involving her. She bore Ibrahim in 8 AH, which made her free, and grieved his death as an infant. She died during Umar RA's caliphate and was buried in Baqi' al-Gharqad.
