The Battle of Yarmouk

The major battle between the army of the Byzantine (Roman) Empire and the Muslims that paved the way to open up half the kingdom of the Romans. It was a victory for the Muslims, though major losses occurred on both sides. Among those who fell severely wounded were three men who had all converted only after the Conquest of Makkah: al-Harith ibn Hisham RA, Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahal RA, and Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'ah RA. A soldier brought water to al-Harith, who, seeing Ikrimah watching, sent it to him instead; Ikrimah, seeing Ayyash watching, sent it on to him, but Ayyash died before the water reached him, and by the time the water-bearer returned, Ikrimah and then al-Harith had also died.
