Salma bint Amr was a capable businesswoman of Banu Adi ibn al-Najjar of Yathrib and the great-grandmother of the Prophet ﷺ. She married Hashim on condition that she stay in Yathrib with her children and business, and bore him Shayba, who grew up in Yathrib until his uncle al-Muttalib brought him to Makkah, where he became known as Abd al-Muttalib. Through her the Prophet ﷺ was related to the Ansar of Banu al-Najjar.
