~Year of Delegations (9 AH) · 9 AH
Ten men of Banu Asad ibn Khuzaymah arrived loudly in the Masjid proclaiming the shahada and pointing out that they had come to Madinah unbidden and unfought, unlike other Arab tribes. Allah revealed Qur'an 49:17 correcting their self-regard, instructing the Prophet ﷺ to tell them that accepting Islam is not a favor they have done him, but a favor Allah has done them by guiding them to faith.
An example, alongside Banu Asad's boast, of tribes that accepted Islam yet still carried some of the old tribal pride into the new faith.

“They regard their acceptance of Islam as a favor to you. Tell [them, O Prophet], 'Do not regard your Islam as a favor to me. Rather, it is Allah Who has done you a favor by guiding you to the faith, if [indeed] you are faithful...'”
Revealed correcting the delegation's boast that they had accepted Islam unbidden and unfought.
“[O Bedouins,] you are not yet mu'mins (believers), you are Muslims (one who has accepted Islam). Iman has not yet fully entered your hearts.”
Opens the same passage as Al-Hujurat 49:17 (already linked to this event), addressing Bedouin tribes who overstated their faith upon accepting Islam without a fight.
