Awtas

What happened

After their defeat at Hunayn, while the tribe of Thaqif fled back to the fortified city of Ta'if, a second, large group of the pagan coalition fled to a place called Awtas. There a further battle took place, with some casualties on the Muslim side, but the Muslims were victorious overall.

Significance

One of several mini-expeditions and skirmishes the Prophet ﷺ ordered in pursuit of the scattered Thaqif and Hawazin coalition after Hunayn, so that the far larger pagan force could not regroup.
