A city near Makkah, twin city and home of the tribe of Thaqif; known for its favorable climate, abundant water, and lush gardens and fruit not found in Makkah or Yathrib.

The nearest major city to Makkah, tied to Makkah by peace treaties and close kinship; the first city the Prophet ﷺ approached seeking refuge and support after the deaths of Khadijah RA and Abu Talib, where he ﷺ was rejected and stoned out of the city. Peacefully entered Islam roughly a decade later after the Battle of Hunayn.
