عروة بن مسعود الثقفي
Embraced Islam at the hands of the Prophet ﷺ in the 9th year of the Hijrah, after the Conquest of Makkah, then returned to Ta'if to preach Islam to his own people of Thaqif.
Urwah ibn Mas'ud al-Thaqafi RA was one of the most respected leaders of Thaqif in Ta'if, alluded to in the Qur'an as one of "the two great men of the two cities" [43:31], and the man the Prophet ﷺ said most resembled Isa AS. At Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH he was the Quraysh's first envoy, and he returned telling them he had never seen any king honored as Muhammad ﷺ was by his Companions. He accepted Islam around the time of the siege of Ta'if and went home to call his people, but was shot by an arrow while giving the adhan from his roof. The Prophet ﷺ likened him to the martyr of Surah Ya-Sin.
