The mother of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas RA opposed her son's Islam when he left idolatry at about sixteen. She refused to eat or drink until he returned to the idols, wasting away until Sa'd swore that even with a hundred souls, each taken before his eyes, he would not give up his religion. Seeing his resolve, she ate again, and Allah revealed verses on obeying parents except in associating partners with Him.
