Kinana was the brother of Abu al-As ibn al-Rabi' who, though not a Muslim, escorted Zaynab RA out of Makkah after Badr so she could join her father in Madinah. Setting out openly by day, they were overtaken by the Quraysh, and Zaynab fell from her camel and miscarried, while Kinana held off the crowd with his bow. On Abu Sufyan's advice he brought her back and a few nights later handed her secretly to the Prophet ﷺ's Companions, acting throughout with honour.
