Khalid ibn Sufyan al-Hudhali was the chieftain of Hudhayl, a large Bedouin tribe, who in 4 AH began gathering men to attack Madinah by surprise. The Prophet ﷺ sent Abdullah ibn Unays al-Juhani RA alone against him, and Abdullah found him in the Valley of Arana, joined his company as a ruse, and killed him. Hudhayl's desire for revenge led to the treachery at al-Raji.
