Hajar was the mother of Ismail AS, left with her infant son by Ibrahim AS in the barren valley of Makkah, where the tribe of Jurhum later settled and Ismail married among them. Though she had been a slave, Ismail and Ishaq AS stand equal in the law of Allah, which shows that a mother's status brings no stigma to her child.
