This unnamed man of Banu Bakr took part in his tribe's attack on Khuza'a at al-Watir in 8 AH, in violation of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. A man of Khuza'a fled from him and ran into the sanctuary of Makkah, where even the Arabs of the Jahiliyyah held that fighting was forbidden. The fugitive turned and pleaded that he was in the Haram and that his pursuer should fear his God. The man of Banu Bakr uttered a blasphemous reply, "There is no God today," followed him into the Haram and killed him. Even his own side had not planned such a thing, and as the news spread it brought great shame on Banu Bakr.
