This unnamed man of Khuza'a was caught in the attack by Banu Bakr on his tribe at al-Watir in 8 AH, a raid that broke the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. He fled from his pursuer into the sanctuary of Makkah, where even the Arabs of the Jahiliyyah held fighting to be forbidden. There he turned and cried, "O so-and-so, I am in the Haram! Fear your God! Fear your God!" His pursuer answered with the blasphemy, "There is no God today," followed him into the Haram and killed him. The killing had not been planned even by the raiders, and as news of it spread it brought great disgrace on Banu Bakr. Khuza'a's appeal to the Prophet ﷺ after the raid led to the Conquest of Makkah.
