Al-Harith ibn Abi Dirar was the chieftain of the Banu al-Mustaliq, keepers of the idol Manat, and the father of Juwayriyyah RA. After Uhud he prepared a surprise attack on Madinah, which Buraydah ibn al-Husayb RA uncovered in disguise, and the Muslims defeated his tribe at al-Muraysi' in 5 AH. When the Prophet ﷺ married Juwayriyyah, the Companions freed all his tribe's captives, and when al-Harith came to ransom his daughter she chose to stay with the Prophet ﷺ. Moved, al-Harith accepted Islam with his whole tribe and was restored as chieftain.
