Aban ibn Sa'id ibn al-As was a man of Banu Umayyah and a first cousin of Uthman ibn Affan RA. In 6 AH, when the Muslims were halted at Hudaybiyyah, the Prophet ﷺ sent Uthman into Makkah to speak to the Quraysh. At a place called Baldah, a group stopped Uthman, mocked him and told him to turn back, since there would be no negotiation. Aban was among them. When he saw how his own cousin was being treated, he got down from his horse, brought it to Uthman and said, "You ride, and I will protect you in Makkah." This grant of aman was how the Arabs of that time gave a stranger safe passage. Aban then led Uthman into Makkah and took him to meet the leaders of the Quraysh.
