“Has he made our objects of worship into one? This is something that is crazy (we have never heard of this before).”
This ayah (Q38:5) is the Qur'an's own quotation of the Quraysh's reaction at this meeting, when they realized the "one word" the Prophet ﷺ wanted was "there is no god but Allah."
