This unnamed young man was the younger brother of one of the senior men in the Christian delegation of Najran that came to Madinah in 9 AH. After the delegation declined the mubahala and agreed to pay the jizya, he spoke ill of the Prophet ﷺ on the way home, according to al-Bayhaqi. The patriarch told him not to curse him. The young man asked, "Why?" and was told that he was the prophet foretold in their scripture. Astonished, he demanded, "Why didn't you accept him then?!" The patriarch answered that they would have had to give up the honor, wealth and ties the Roman emperor had given them. At that, the young man turned back to Madinah and became a Muslim.
